5. The PriceThe
vehicle rental price
is calculated based on your requested start and end dates and times,
the rental location(s), the amount of time you rent for, the type of
vehicle stated you requested.
The
price of optional extras
– such as baby seats, booster seats, extra driver(s), liability
reduction products, delivery charges and GPS devices – are calculated
based on the requested start and end dates and times and the rental
location from which you will pick up the vehicle.
! | All prices in Australian dollars. Unless
stated otherwise, the price also includes all costs you must pay – for
example, vehicle tax and local taxes and location surcharge. Some
locations – mostly airports – will charge a location and a car park
surcharge as it costs us more to operate there. Don’t worry, it will be
included in the price quoted to you, but you must pay
the car park surcharge if you fail to pick-up the vehicle at the
requested start date and time or if you fail to return the vehicle at
the agreed end date and time.
|
6. Rental RequirementsBooking referenceYou must
bring your booking confirmation email with you. It will help the
location find your details so you can get on your way as quickly as
possible.
Driving Licence! | We may refuse to allow any driver to drive the vehicle who (i) does not hold a full/open driving licence valid for use in Australia for the entire rental period, (ii) has not brought an international driving licence or official translation (if applicable), (iii) has not held their licence for the minimum period of 1 complete year, (iv) has driving related convictions, or (v) who does not meet our security or credit checks. Please read the Driving licence and ID requirements or call Sales or email Reservations for more information.
|
Drivers must bring an international driving licence
or an official translation in English
if
their driving licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet like Arabic,
Chinese, or Japanese (and other similar non-roman alphabet based
languages).
Drivers are responsible to check what the statutory requirements are in Australia.Drivers must
bring previous driving licences or a letter from their driving licence
authority stating that they have held it for the minimum period if
their current driving licence does not show the full period.
Drivers must
bring previous driving licences or a letter from their driving licence
authority stating that they have a non-learners and non-provisional and non-probationary
driving licence if their current licence does not show the status.
Proof of Identity, Photo ID and Proof of AddressPlease
note that we will not accept a driving licence as a valid form of
identity or address if the driving licence does not (i) display the
photo or (ii) state the address of the driver. As such,
the person hiring the vehicle must bring proof of their identity, e.g. a valid current passport or identity card/document. The photo ID
must be recognisable. The
person hiring the vehicle must also bring proof of their address. This could include a recent utility bill or a bank statement that shows the address.
! | If the person hiring the vehicle lives within a 100 kilometre radius of the rental location, we will not accept a driving licence as a valid form of address, even if the driving licence does state the address of the driver. The person hiring the vehicle must
bring at least 2 documents as proof of their address. This could
include a recent utility bill and a bank statement that shows the
address.
|
Payment methodsWe
generally accept American Express, Japan Credit Bureau, MasterCard and
Visa credit cards, and MasterCard and Visa debit cards (in both cases
excluding prepaid cards).
! | We do not accept
Visa Electron cards, Maestro cards, Cirrus cards, Diners cards, any
pre-paid card – even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo – or any
other cards not listed above. We do not accept
non-embossed cards – even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo.
The card’s numbers and card holder’s name must be bevelled/ridged.
|
! | You must
bring the payment card used to make your booking as it is used as a
form of identity check to ensure the vehicle is given to the person who
made the booking who must also be the main driver. Please look at your
booking confirmation email, or call Sales, or email Reservations. The name on the payment card(s) must the same as the name on the driving licence for the main driver. If you do not have the payment card used to make the booking with you, we
reserve the right to cancel your booking and to charge your payment
card on record for damages we have incurred (to the extent legally
permissible). We may, at our sole discretion, still rent to you
if we have another vehicle available and you meet all rental
requirements and security checks, but you will have to pay the Rental
Location’s prices available on the day, as this will be treated as a
new rental.
|
! | MasterCard and Visa cards attract a 1.45% surcharge. American Express and Japan Credit Bureau cards attract a 2.75% surcharge. |
Security Deposits and Pre-AuthorisationsBefore the rental location will let you rent a vehicle, they will take a
security deposit and a
pre-authorisation. You must use an approved payment card that is in your name and has enough funds available on it.
! | A
pre-authorisation holds an amount of money in your account. Once a
pre-authorisation has happened, you won’t be able to use that money for
anything else until you have paid for the rental charges and your card
company releases the pre-authorisation. While a pre-authorisation is in
effect, it may even look like the amount has been deducted from your
account, this isn’t the case; the money is simply ‘on hold’. A security deposit, on the other hand, transfers money out of your account.
|
The
amount is either fixed – or calculated based on (a) the liability
waiver, (b) plus an amount to allow for any fuel you may use.
! | If you choose the Standard Excess (SE) waiver: • You must pay a security deposit amount of (i) at least $800 for drivers above 24 years of age or (ii) at least $1100 for drivers below 25 years of age. You must also
leave a pre-authorisation amount of at least $200.
If you choose the Excess Reduction (ER) waiver:
• You must pay a security deposit amount of (i) at least $200 for drivers above 24 years of age or (ii) at least $700 for drivers below 25 years of age. You must also
leave a pre-authorisation amount of at least $200.
If you choose the Maximum Cover (MAX) waiver:
• You must pay a security deposit amount of (i) at least $100 for drivers above 24 years of age or (ii) at least $500 for drivers below 25 years of age. You must also
leave a pre-authorisation amount of at least $100.
In
all instances we reserve the right to take a security deposit and a
pre-authorisation up to the amount of the liability waiver and any
fuel you may use. If you would like more details, please call Sales or email Reservations.
|
! | If the person hiring the vehicle lives within a 100 kilometre radius of the rental location, the person hiring the vehicle must pay the full liability waiver as a security deposit. A pre-authorisation amount will also be taken to allow for any fuel you may use. If you would like more details, please call Sales or email Reservations.
|
At
vehicle return, the final payment amount will be calculated and
processed using the payment card provided. If the final payment amount
is greater than the
security deposit, the rental location will ask you to pay the difference. If the final payment is less than the
security deposit – or you choose to pay using a different method –
we will refund you the difference using the payment method you used for the security deposit,
less any card surcharge (if applicable). Please see ‘Payment methods’ section for details.
If you choose to pay by a different method, please be aware that the
pre-authorisation on the original card will remain until released by your card company.
Your card company, not the rental location, is responsible for
releasing pre-authorisations and processing approved refunds and this can take up to
14 days.Driver Age Restrictions! | To drive our vehicles, you – and all your drivers – need to be at least 21 years old and at most 69 years old and hold an approved driving licence. Please see ‘Driving Licence’ section for details. To
drive our Toyota Yaris / Accent (Years 2014-18), or Toyota Camry (Years
2014-17), or Nissan X-Trail (Years 2013-15), or Toyota RAV4 (Years 2016-19), or Kia Carnival / Imax
(Years 2011-15) vehicles, you – and all your drivers – need to be at least 25 years old and at most 69 years old and hold an approved driving licence. Please see ‘Driving Licence’ section for details. Drivers below 25 years of age must pay
a daily young driver surcharge. If a driver is under the minimum age or
over the maximum age restriction, they will not be able to drive.
|
Unacceptable BehaviourThe
rental location may refuse
to rent to you if you or anyone in your party behaves in an
unacceptable way, e.g., if they believe that any driver is under the
influence of drink or drugs or you, or anyone in your party, is
abusive or threatening to their teams or the customers.
7. Security ChecksBy making a booking
you agree to identity, security, driving licence and credit checks being carried out against you and any
additional drivers or persons making payment towards the rental. Please see ‘Personal Information’ section for details.
! | The rental location may refuse
to rent the vehicle if you or the person making payment fails any of
the checks and this leads us to believe that you, the person paying for
the vehicle, the driver or any additional driver results in the rental
being deemed high risk. The rental location may refuse to allow a driver to drive the vehicle if they fail any of the checks. The rental location may, if allowed by law, refuse to rent the vehicle if you or any person making the payment owes any amount owed to Rent 4 Less. If any information you have given is shown to be false or inaccurate, then you’ll have broken your contract. You will then have to pay for any costs or damages we have incurred.
|
8. Rental Locations! | All times in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Please note unavoidable delays may occur during peak periods. Rental location office hours/meet and greet hours are subject to change without notice. Please call Sales or email Reservations for more details.
|
! | If your pick-up or return is on 25th December and 1st January, you must pay (i) a Public Holiday Pick-up Fee of $55, (ii) a Public Holiday Return Fee of $55 and (iii) the ‘Maximum Cover (MAX)’
liability reduction product. The MAX amount is calculated based on your
requested start and end dates and times, the rental location(s) and the
amount of time you rent for. In all instances the Public Holiday Fee(s) and Maximum Cover (MAX) amount will be automatically added to your booking or rental.

9. AvailabilityVehiclesIf there are no vehicles available in the group you booked, the
rental location will try to find you a vehicle from a higher group at
no extra cost. This happens rarely, but if they can only find you a vehicle in a lower group
and you agree
to rent this vehicle, you will only be charged for the value of that
vehicle. If you have already paid, you will be entitled to a
refund of the difference.
This
happens rarely, but if you have booked a larger size vehicle and it is
unavailable, to get you on your way, the rental location may provide
you with more than one vehicle or suggest you use alternative transport
until they can get a vehicle in the group you requested.
This happens rarely, but
if no vehicles are available, you will of course be entitled to a
full refund of any amount you have already paid.
Optional ExtrasIt
would be unusual for the rental location not to have an optional extra
you pre-booked. If it does happen, they will try to get one from
another rental location. If this is not possible, the
rental location will (at their option):
buy a new one for you, ask you to buy a reasonably priced one from
elsewhere and reimburse you the price paid or refund you the cost of
the pre-booked optional extra.
10. Added Important InformationArea of useThe vehicle is
only allowed to be used in the
permitted area of use and on
sealed roads. The area is confined to a
250 kilometre radius, to which the center of the radius circle relates to being Surfers Paradise.
! | In Queensland the vehicle is not allowed
to travel in a Northerly direction beyond Gympie or in a Westerly
direction beyond Toowoomba; and in New South Wales the vehicle is not allowed to travel in a Southerly direction beyond Grafton. Vehicles are not allowed
for use/travel: On unsealed roads or off-road conditions; onto any
island that is off mainland Australia; onto ferries, transporters or
trains; on beaches; or through rivers, streams, creeks, tidal
crossings, or flood waters.
|

Click
here to view the area of use map.Claims Administration FeeIf the vehicle is involved in an accident, or damaged,
you must complete and return the ‘Vehicle Incident Report’ form, and you
must pay
the liability waiver. A ‘Claims Administration Fee’ of at least $150
will apply in addition to the liability waiver.
! | If you fail to send the Vehicle Incident Report with the full details of the incident, you must pay for all loss and damage. If you fail to pay the liability waiver, you must pay for all loss and damage. Please read the Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions for more details.
|
If any accessories, the vehicle keys, any vehicle documents or any optional extras are damaged,
you must complete and return an incident report form. You
must pay for all loss and damage, and administration fees.
Traffic and Toll finesYou are responsible and must pay for any
traffic fines or
parking charges or
tolls incurred during the rental period related to your use of the vehicle.
! | Unpaid
traffic, parking and toll fines are costly and inconvenient. On top of
paying for the fine, issued to you by the Australian or Tolling
authority, you must pay our ‘Administration Fee’ to cover the time and resources in dealing with these fines or charges: • $110 for each traffic and parking fine, and • $55 for each toll fine.
|
Cleaning fees! | You must return the vehicle in the same condition as it was when you picked it up. You must pay
cleaning fees, and any associated loss of use, if you return the
vehicle or any optional extras especially muddy, dirty, stained or
smelly. Smoking or the carriage of any animal is strictly prohibited in the vehicle.
|
Early returnsIf
you return the vehicle and any optional extras early, you will lose the
benefit of any special offers if you no longer meet their requirements.
This may result in the rental costing you more.
There is no refund for any unused days. If you return the vehicle early to an airport location, you will
remain responsible for the vehicle until such later time it has been checked-in and
you must pay the location car park surcharge.
Late returnsYou must return
the vehicle and any optional extras at the return date and time stated
on the Rental Agreement. If you think you will be late, it is in your
interest to request an extension from us. If you fail to extend and are
late,
you must pay a rate
equivalent to double the rate for the vehicle and the rate(s) for any
optional extras for each day you are late. If you return the vehicle
late to an airport location, you will
